Users of travel tripods are particularly sensitive to the packed volume of the tripod in addition to its weight. Here, I have created an alternative ranking for travel tripods that incorporates the packed volume of the tripod into its score. This volume weighted (VW) score is simply the traditional score metric divided by the tripod’s packed volume. The volume weighted score isn’t comparable to the traditional score metric. The two should be used independently. If packed volume isn’t important to you, use the traditional metric. If it is, you will likely find the volume weighted score a better guide. And remember, the score is just that, a guide to help you choose the best tripod for you based on your priorities.
